Homemade Hot Chocolate Bombs

I have to admit the kids had fun helping me perfect this recipe for Hot Chocolate Bombs. It did take several attempts to get the right thickness of the chocolate….BUT the nice thing was I could melt the chocolate over and over again to make it easier to redo. So here are some tips to start with

  1. I like using a thin Tupperware Silicone Spatula to paint it on but you can use a spoon too!
  2. Chopping up extra add ins is fun!
  3. These bombs are big….so it may be easier to watch them explode on the stove top after milk is warmed up unless you have a really big mug!

What Tupperware was used?

Thin Silicone Spatula, Micro Pitcher, Silicone Muffin Form, Chop n Prep and either Small Tupperware Sauce pan or the Micro Pitcher to heat up the milk at the end!

Ingredients:

  • 1 small bag of your favorite chocolate chips. This is the base of the bomb so if you like dark chocolate – use those chips. If you prefer milk chocolate then those work too!
  • Optional: Dry Hot Chocolate Mix
  • Mix-ins like mini Marshmallows and chopped up candies

Directions

Step 1: Melt the Chocolate Chips in the Micro Pitcher. I did about 1 cup of the chips. Microwave on High for 30 seconds then stir. Then repeat microwaving every 15 seconds and stirring with the Mini Silicone Spatula until melted. It will take about one minute and 30 seconds or so!

Step 2: Paint the inside of the Tupperware Silicone Muffin Form with a thick layer of the chocolate. It can be painted with a Mini Silicone Spatula or a spoon.

Step 3: Carefully place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to harden.

Step 4: Once harden peel out of the Tupperware Silicone Muffin Form and start to fill

Step 5: Fillings can include: 1 tbsp Dry Hot Chocolate Mix (optional if the chocolate itself is enough!), some mini marshmallows, maybe even some chopped candies that are chopped in the Chop n Prep

Step 6. Place another Muffin cup on top and seal with the chocolate. It needs to be a little bit cooled for the melted chocolate to seal and not melt the two together.

Step 7: Place the bomb in a very large mug and warm up milk to pour over OR warm up milk in the Tupperware Sauce Pan and add the bomb to it. Watch it “explode” and stir and enjoy!

Tip for gift giving this year. While you wait for your Tupperware to arrive should you be short on time try this: Buy all the ingredients to make them along with a picture of the Tupperware you are getting. Wrap that and put it under the tree along with the directions! Then you can have a shared experience when it all comes!
